2019 ANNUAL S.A.A. CAMPING TRIP ON SEPTEMBER 6, 7, and 8th

Join us for a weekend of fellowship in the beautiful central Sierras. Bring your tent and sleeping bag, and enjoy hiking in forest, swimming, boating, stargazing and an amazing recovery community. There will be an opportunity to attend workshops under the pines and attend morning and night meetings around a large campfire. It is a great opportunity to meet and share recovery with other members as family and develop new friendships in the program.

Robust meals are provided as a part of camping experience. Breakfast will be served in the crisp clear morning air with the smell of campfires, bacon and sausage cooking, lunch is a build your own smorgasbord, and dinner is served by candle light under a sky filled with stars. If you have specific dietary considerations the meals will be tailored to your needs.

In the spirit of being in service, each camper will be assigned to a food team and share in the preparation and cleanup of a meal. Also we will be carpooling as much as possible, because of the limited parking availability. Our Ride Coordinator will help you pair up with a ride; just let us know your needs when you register.

On line registration is scheduled to open on July 29, 2019. Registration can be made by check with a registration form available on this website or at your local meeting. Also, you can also register on line using the SAA camping web site (http://bit.ly/2019SAACamping [case sensitive]) and paying through PayPal. An extra $1.80 will be added to the fee for the use of the PayPal services. Registration will close Friday night August 30, 2019. Unfortunately, after August 30, 2019, registration fees CAN NOT be refunded. A conformation letter, facility description and overview, a camping essentials check list, and a map and directions to the camp site will be emailed to you upon receipt of payment.

The cost of the weekend is $80.00 for three days and two nights of camping. This will include payment for the camping site and all of the meals at the camping retreat. Five scholarships, on a first come first serve basis, are available that will reduce the registration to $40.00. Please request the scholarship with your registration application.

The campsite is restricted to a maximum capacity of 25 campers so register early.

This event is restricted to S.A.A. members only.

Cars can be driven to the Chipmunk campsite for loading and unloading of camping equipment, but must be parked in the Bear River Group Campground’s main parking area.

If you bring a pet, Forest Service campground regulations require that your pet be leashed, at all times, while in the campground area.

All funds over and above the cost of the camping event will be donated to the International Service Organization of S.A.A.

Location: Lower Bear River Reservoir; Bear River Group Campground, Pioneer, CA 95666. (Same campsite as year 2017.)

Registration Fee: $80.00

Scholarship Fee: $40.00 (only 5 scholarships are available)

Considerations in Holding “Hybrid” SAA Group Meetings

SAA Group meetings expect a return next year to joining together at churches, hospitals and other meeting rooms. The availability of COVID-19 vaccines may transform this expectation to a reality. Accordingly, Bay Area Intergroup in line with one of its purposes is sharing the outline below on best practices for Groups currently meeting in a Hybrid format. As a reminder, each Group decides based on its “conscience” how to comply with restrictions imposed by city, county and state public health authorities.
Revised December 14, 2020

1. Definitions
a. Full “Hybrid”    i. Zoom/Skype access info (e.g., meeting ID and password) published on web    ii. More susceptible to bombers
b. Mini “Hybrid”    i. Meeting ID and password NOT published on web    ii. Access provided only by Group Secretary (ies)

2. Face to Face (F2f) protocols
a. Social Distancing
b. Face Coverings
c. Distance maintained even when standing
d. F2f Limits per current public health directives
e. Readings typically made by F2f attendees

3. Virtual protocols
a. Mini “Hybrid” intended for high risk (self-determined individually) addicts who have access to text chains (e.g., emails) within Group
b. Overtalking exists during recitation of prayers (possible solutions include posting prayers using Share Screen (Zoom feature) with moving laser)
c. Respect commensurate with solely F2f meetings
d. Virtual attendees may read if access provided ahead of time
e. Generally, F2f Secretary assisted by online facilitator who keeps online access machine (e.g., laptop, I-pad, I-phone depending on Group resourcefulness technology wise) current to meeting agenda (putting up readings, muting and unmuting, accepting addicts in waiting room)
